Music sets the mood to hear the Gospel

The Chancel Choir, led by Music Director Mattie Banzhaf, sings every Sunday, rehearses every Thursday, and explores anthems old and new, from traditional favorites to unusual but accessible music.  Consider joining the Chancel Choir!

The Handbell Ringers, led by organist Victor Evans, enjoy creating the unique sound of a bell choir.  Consider joining the Handbell Ringers!

South Church is blessed to have world-class keyboard instruments, played each week by organist Victor Evans.  The chancel holds an Austin 2-manual organ and a beautifully reconditioned Steinway grand piano.  A magnificent Mason-Hamlin grand piano graces the choir room, and a fine Hailun upright is in the Parlor.  Concerts at South Church make good use of these outstanding instruments.  Watch for notices of concerts at South Church and enjoy the music!

Once a year Ross Tucker and the Hot Cat Jazz Band enliven the service with their exciting jazz arrangements.  The South Church congregation appreciates a wide variety of music in our services.  Feel the beat and join the exaltation!

Instant Choir needs no commitment at all, just a love of singing.  Simply show up a half-hour before the service when Instant Choir is announced and join the easy anthem. Definitely plan to sing with Instant Choir!

Singers who aren’t ready to commit to an entire year of weekly rehearsals are welcome to join the choir on a short-term basis preparing for Music Sundays, in December and Spring.  Cantatas and other larger-scale works are often presented on these special musical celebration Sundays.  Consider singing with the Choir for Music Sunday!

Members and friends of the congregation often offer their individual musical gifts with solo singing or instrumental playing.  We have had flutes, viola da gamba, guitars both classical and folk, drums, smallpipes, violin, and many other instruments.  We even have a “House Band” for special occasions.  Consider offering your own unique musical gifts for worship services!

Kaleidoscope Choir is made up of the children in the Sunday School.  They rehearse briefly each week to enjoy singing together and to prepare songs for Family Worship services several times a year in a multi-generational approach to praise.  Encourage your children’s participation in Kaleidoscope Choir!
