Who We Are

Attentive to the Gospel, the ministry of
South Congregational Church invites and offers:

Worship: Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Word and Sacrament and seeking to walk in his ways.

Teaching: Teaching the Christian Faith through educational opportunities for all ages.

Outreach: Caring for each other and our neighbors through Christian outreach in our community, state and world.

Fellowship: Nurturing fellowship in the context of Christian Community.

We are...South Congregational Church, founded in 1872 and proudly serving in the heart of Granby for more than 130 years.

We are...a lively church family that began with 36 charter members and has grown to be the spiritual home for more than 500 adults and 165 children today.

We are...members of the United Church of Christ, the largest Protestant denomination in Connecticut, and we join in covenant with 258 churches across the state and nearly 6,000 across the United States.

We are...an active faith community with a myriad of opportunities for worship, teaching, fellowship and outreach, all founded in our conviction as followers of Christ.

We are...a vital group of people, engaged in the important challenge of helping mind and soul to grow.

We are...a responsive family of God, sharing the gifts and talents that we have been given so that others might come to know the Good News also.

We are...open to all and have an eagerness to welcome each person as they make the journey of faith, knowing that together we celebrate God in the Center--of Granby and of our lives.

We are...a people on a mission, and in fact, have a mission statement that provides direction and purpose to our ministry.

Centered in God, as revealed in Jesus Christ, we are South Congregational Church. Attentive to the Gospel, our ministry invites and offers many things for our members and the community in Granby and the world beyond. We welcome all to join our journey as we grow together in faith.

United Church of Christ Statement of Faith

We believe in you, O God, Eternal Spirit,
God of our Savior Jesus Christ and our God,
and to your deeds we testify:

You call the worlds into being,
create persons in your own image,
and set before each one the ways of life and death.

You seek in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin.
You judge people and nations by your righteous will declared
through prophets and apostles.

In Jesus Christ, the man of Nazareth, our crucified and risen Savior,
you have come to us and shared our common lot,
conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to yourself.

You bestow upon us your Holy Spirit,
creating and renewing the church of Jesus Christ,
binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races.

You call us into your church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship
to be your servants in the service of others,
to proclaim the gospel to all the world and resist the powers of evil,
to share in Christ's baptism and eat at his table,
to join him in his passion and victory.

You promise to all who trust you forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace,
courage in the struggle for justice and peace,
your presence in trial and rejoicing,
and eternal life in your realm which has no end.

South Church is covenental in theology and congregational in governance. We affirm the Statement of Faith of the United Church of Christ as our own. We also hold in reverence the historic creeds of our church.
